hi everyone,

could you help me about a calibration matter?in more details...a custumer of my company (API manufacturer), during an inspection told me that balances in production (500 kg, 300 kg and 150 kg balances) have to be calibrated through the entire range, even if we use them only till 25kg-40kg and calibrate them conseguently. May calibrate them only in my range??furthermore they told us to calibrate balances every day we use them...but i ask: is it possible to calibrate in such way a 500 kg/300 kg balance every day?now we performe only a zero control and a sort of double check with another balances (once a month we perform also a calibration with a weight set) and it will result very hard to convince the operators to performe an everyday calibration. i would like to follow any guideline but i never see any detailed indication about frequency and calibration way...may you help me??thank you anyway in advance

Vincente,
I would say that what you do is good. The customer is asking too much... especially if it was never requested by FDA. It is not a laboratory balance after all !! . I would have the balance calibrated over the entire range by an outside company once a year or every 2 years. Maintenance should look at it at regular interval. For the daily check, you can place a certified weight on top of an unknown mass ( a regular production for example). It will not take much of your operator's time. If the difference equals the certified mass, it is good sign.

Hope it helped.

Vincente,
Even you are not using the entire range.
once a while at the time of qualification pl. perform the entire range calibration and estalish the weighing range and than daily only accuracy test is sufficeint of working range weight.
